Answers
Is ReadySetLaunch really free?
Yes! ReadySetLaunch is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. You will never be asked for any sort of payment.
Why is the program provided at no-cost?
We believe that all students should have access to comprehensive college advising, regardless of socioeconomic background.
What is the mentor to mentee ratio?
We promise a 1:1 mentor to mentee ratio.
Can ReadySetLaunch promise that I will be accepted into a college?
ReadySetLaunch is here to advise you to our fullest capacity, but unfortunately we cannot guarantee admissions into any college. What we do promise is that our mentors will work to the best of their abilities to help you navigate the college application process.
What factors does ReadySetLaunch consider in its applications?
ReadySetLaunch primarily focuses on the potential of a candidate and their socio-economic background. We look for motivated and ambitious students who can benefit from our program. We do not consider race, gender, sexuality, and political or religious affiliation.
Approximately what family income range would make me eligible for ReadySetLaunch?
ReadySetLaunch is looking for students from low to middle-income families ($60,000 and under). However, we will consider all applicants relative to one another. We still encourage you to apply regardless of your family’s income.
If I have poor test scores, will I be disadvantaged in the application process?
While those factors are important in the application process, ReadySetLaunch will consider the whole of your application: your academic record and extracurriculars, as well as any other extenuating circumstances.
What happens once I am admitted into ReadySetLaunch?
ReadySetLaunch will pair you with one of our mentors and give you access to our library of resources. Mentors and mentees will be in contact primarily through RSL’s own integrated online network. You will hear from your mentor at least once a week, and if you ever have any questions, feel free to contact them!
How will I be matched with my mentor?
Based on your application, we will try to match you with someone who has similar interests, undergone a comparable college process, and is familiar with your local area. More importantly, each of our mentors is committed to advising you as best they can.
How will I communicate with my mentor?
All mentees are provided with their mentor’s email and phone number, facilitating easy means of contact at regular intervals as well as when unexpected questions arise.
Can I change my mentor after I have been matched?
ReadySetLaunch strives to match you with whom you are most compatible. However, if there are conflicts of interests or irreconcilable differences, then RSL will try to find you another mentor. But keep in mind that it is difficult to switch mentors mid-process and that we intend to match you with your ideal mentor from the start.
Am I required to apply only to Ivy League Universities if I’m admitted?
Absolutely not. ReadySetLaunch appreciates the diversity of college opportunities available. Whether you are looking simply to get into college or seeking acceptance at a more competitive school, we are here to help.
I am a competitive varsity athlete who is looking to be recruited. Can ReadySetLaunch help me?
ReadySetLaunch can definitely help you in the process! We will try to match you with a mentor who has also undergone the recruiting process so that we can best improve your chances.
In which universities does ReadySetLaunch operate?
ReadySetLaunch was founded at Yale and has a chapter at Brown. However, RSL is not affiliated with the administration or admission offices of any colleges. We are looking to expand to other universities and increase the number of our mentors soon.
